Vision Statement of Followers of Jesus at Thomaston

Jesus, in Matthew 28:19-20, mandated his disciples to “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.” We believe the fulfilling of this mandate is just as pertinent for followers of Jesus in the 21st century as it was for the eleven disciples he spoke these words to.

We believe this mandate requires us to individually and collectively share the good news of Jesus and His Kingdom with those we interact with.

We embrace the vision of following the New Testament principles established by Jesus and his apostles, which have faithfully guided the Church from its inception. We hold to the values the

early Anabaptist movement demonstrated in its embrace of a Christocentric worldview.

We embrace the vision of providing fellowship for those desiring to be part of a church that embraces the values and vision the early Anabaptist movement held to.

We embrace the vision of reaching out to the poor and needy in Upson and surrounding counties as Jesus did, with both spiritual and material aid.

We embrace the vision of being a church united in faith, love and purpose and one that exemplifies the union that Jesus has with His bride, the Church.

What makes Anabaptists different?

We agree with a majority of the common Christian views on God’s character, His plan for redemption of man from sin, and the moral lifestyle that is expected of a Christian. The following are several areas of belief and practice where we differ from many modern Christian views.

We believe that followers of Jesus should not participate in the government agencies that use force to enact their policies and that we should not participate in any war. (Matthew 5:39, John 18:36)

We believe that we should diligently apply the Biblical teachings in our current culture so that our lives show Jesus’ way to the world around us. (2 Timothy 2:15)

We believe that marriage is a lifelong commitment and that generally remarriage of divorced individuals is condemned by the teachings of Jesus. (Matthew 5:32)
